Skipjack Tuna

The skipjack tuna frequents tropical and subtropical seas usually in coastal and oceanic waters; it is most common in the Canarian archipelago even chasing small baitfish in to the harbours. With wavy lines across his back and spots just below the pectoral fins the skipjack is very easy to identify. Skipjack have bold strips along their bellies, winning them the nickname of watermelons. Expect to catch skipjack tuna up to 10 pounds in weight but what they lack in size they more than make up for in numbers. Techniques for catching skipjack on the fly are being perfected and will be offered to clientele for the 2007 season.
