DoradoThe dorado is found worldwide in tropical and warm temperate seas. Dorado are one of the most colourful fish in the sea although the colours are quite variable, changing from rich iridescent blue, gold or silvery gold on the sides and silvery white or yellow on the belly the sides of the dorado are flecked with a mixture of light and dark spots.Large dorado males are distinctive in that they have high vertical foreheads, while the female's forehead is rounded. Dorado are extremely fast swimmers that feed on flying fish and squid and they frequently become airborne after striking a lure. Expect to encounter dorado in the region of 10 to 40 pounds. Recently in Gran Canaria there has been a run of small dorado and this might be linked to an upturn in the quality of the blue marlin fishing (something to remember for the competitions). |
