Atlantic Blue MarlinThe elite of the Atlantic big game fisherman, the Blue Marlin is the largest and toughest fighting of the billfish. They can attain sizes beyond 1,500 pounds but the most common are fish in the 200 to 500 pound range.They usually inhabit the warmer waters of the Caribbean then follow the Gulf stream towards the Azores and return to the Caribbean via the Canarian Archipelago. Blue Marlin have brilliant colours when alive and they are famous for "lighting up" in iridescent colours when they strike a bait or lure. The Blue Marlin trolling season is from June to the end of September and takes place in depths of water up to 2000 meters. Blue Marlin feed on a wide variety of fish including squid, bonito, dorado, mackerel, small members of the tuna tribe and other billfish. On board Lucky Ruby G we use 50lb, 80lb and 130 class Shimano and Penn fishing equipment for these fish. The 50lb IGFA line class record of 802lbs was caught in Canarian waters. |
